Dog Therapist

Luna, Dog Therapist, PhD
(Dog of Philosophy)
Specialty - Human Family Therapy.

"She is what we have in common. The therapist is personally authentic to a very high degree. Our family trusts her implicitly.

"You might reasonably ask, what about those annoying things? I say, price of admission. A little poop here, unsolicited help with the laundry there, barking at the gorgeous mooch of a neighborhood cat ... Ok I might run out of space ...

"Where was I?"

Her thesis was, "Through the Eyes of a Cosmic Dog." or some such thing. Not only was it in Luna-ease, her eyes don't point in the same direction like mere humans. For fans of human vision, depth from field of view as opposed to human's non-linear depth perception.

"Stay tuned for the further adventures of Luna, Dog Therapist."

Creative Sandbox

"Look what this 'dog' has brought to the party. The symbols (chewables) are just at four-legged reach from every open room in the house (think refrigerator magnets). But she dragged the rest of the world in. In short order too."

"Furry four legged critter with legendary ancestors in Tibet or the epic in the making from Mountain View?"

"Both, not necessarily in that order."

When he said "Google. Fetch!" it was with great affection. What he threw was a query. With great enthusiasm and ever more impressive skill each time, nourishment of an intelligent KIND for us both was dropped at my feet.

He thought, "What have I done today to deserve such great friend?"

Grown-up Epitome

"A few very wealthy vs. everybody else. Looks to have been a cakewalk. The outrage did not make the evening news. Seems a advertiser could not be found. Oh, well."

"Meanwhile, a couple of bright folks behaving like deep humans have been caught rejecting arbitrary predation? Making money has little long term value, it is just for buying and owning stuff, a tool. There is another choice. It is very good business because it focuses on what money is supposed to represent and is biased to longevity."

Value Unit of a Different Kind

"What minimal value would we want to place on a single authentic personal identity? Perhaps that should be the reference, one unit?"

"Who is counting?"

"We are."

Like many of these discussions, dissonance. Even with all going well, trust on such an intimate level is volatile. Could it explain why the successful global companies vigorously pursuing the treasure that is human identity be treading so carefully?

On some level, one would certainly hope so. Cast as 'privacy invasion' by those fearing loss of an old manipulative order. By design of a selfish few, confusion abounds among constituents.

And those who have an empowering point-of-view see it is well worth the effort to transcend the social reluctance to engage our technology in the machine assisted identity pursuit.

Story Too Long

"In effect, the rule of law unless you have sufficient resources to override (with power and/or property)?"

"When put that way, this whole matter is pretty disgusting. But that statement does not adequately describe the circumstances."

"Like the opposition's MESSAGE, it fits in the space available."

Perhaps we should consider a different medium then.

---

"A jury of their peers instructed to disregard attempts to secretly manipulate emotions. It may have worked. Those folks able and willing to work for the long-term good seemed to have set the stage just so on this one. Make ownership better. Know what 'better' is in this context."

Nefarious ownership is the type that creates trouble where it should not. Owning something should not mean owning somebody. So the contemporary argument is simply with so much more than anyone needs, why should a population tolerate exploitation?

Cosmic ownership is a type that promotes a better society. It is not in conflict with incentive mechanisms (like intellectual property, or a limited liability business).

There is a body of thought that subscribes to this inventive, compassionate and highly organized theme. Even in the ancient world, examples abound.

Mine

... Luna said.
"You own yourself, not everything you can get away with taking.", he retorted. The tinge of afflictive emotion was self-evident."

"As if those were only choices available." her calm reply only served to widen the gap a bit more. Mostly because he was upstaged by her deeper understanding of an old refrain delivered in timely and convincing fashion.

The unfortunate frame that served the interests of the conflict as opposed to something more productive was on top.

Meanwhile, joint ownership on  a variety of scales was neglected. Warfare of the information variety effectively obscured something, on deeper consideration, that held great promise. Welcome to new century.

The words of the whisper from they knew not where were clear, "For that you came."

Simultaneity

"So we swung the dish around to a spot with the least near obstructions, set the widest available bandwidth and filtering turned off. The most pristine random signal from the distant cosmos was the target."

With a bit of dramatic flare, a countdown to detection launch was called out by the gal with the NASA communications officer sound for everyone in the command center to hear."

"At tee minus zero, it was as if we would be taken on the ride our lives. The room of seven people became mystically still. The monitors went dark including the master. The audio pulse had the oddest echo."

"I don't know how it felt to others. To me it was as if a darkly brilliant flash had 'illuminated' a large field. Full of detail, none recognized but all retrievable. Though we were using the cutting edge in recognition hardware and software we knew the sheer data size meant nothing could be calculated in mere minutes, perhaps hours."

"But the feeling was instantaneous, as if the existence alone of such recognition capacity could trigger the outcome whether or not the mechanism was activated."

Truth is what?

25 August, Close to Home
"A late summer day. Hints of the darker time punctuating the freedom of season's light. It repeats with a twist for as long as time has been experienced?"

Story Mismatch

"The time consuming aspect of this work is reducing the narrative to something easy to work with. Especially against one or more narratives of the same events that do not correlate with each other."

"And in this case, ostensibly from the same narrator."

"Yes. Just a hunch that we cannot ignore any longer."

Each in this group did not take for granted working definitions for articulating eye witness accounts. More important here than elsewhere because of the diversity of disciplines represented. Speculating on deep meaning demanded matching rigor.

"'Back Off' alert starting flashing intermittently fairly early this morning. The sensitivity was set high and false alarms possible. In retrospect they now seemed authentic."

Emissary

"The best intel we have so far suggests the possibility of common ground. Still, it has a high risk of leading nowhere or backfiring."

Meanwhile, is some element of the opposition preparing for an assault? If their leadership is in transition, as suggested by recent visible events, that chance is likely in play as the power struggle plays out.

"The ultimatum used before has much less behind it now. Passion and desperation can indicate big change is imminent.

"She blinked this time. A signal?"

The somewhat bizarre stories had become routine. Delivered in a convincing style, they were effective persuasion, at first. When they started conflicting it was a yellow flag.

Homecoming

Who? Usual suspects ...
"Yes, a few know what it is likely to mean. And therein lies its strategic value. Let me explain."

The crisp colors, high contrast and new horizon served as an extraordinary backdrop to this instance of emergence. As if to say, 'step away from the chaos, hands in the air. Retribution is a fools game.'

It was a time of year to reflect on what had transpired. The value was not overstated, the silver lining was worth a confrontation with  the scariest dude one has occasion to encounter.

"You cannot win because this in not about you." Looking beyond the scythe and the edge of the hood, his tone was defiant.

Perverted Incentive

Doctors are special.
"When trusted authorities say, 'oops' these days, I get a bit nervous. Why does it seem that HIPAA protects providers more than consumers? Who wrote those rules?"

Most were afraid to ask. At least until there was not too much else to loose.

"Can someone make enough money off investment in turning the lights on? Seems so, if you ask me. Nearly three years of study of an unconventional type led me to the conclusion."

Secret Cyber War?

"While you are at it, you might ask how certain readers avoid being detected by Google Analytics.

"Thinking along the lines of IP initial ownership, creator(s) legally own the idea at inception. They have the right to keep the idea private until such time as that ownership is protected."

"So, you are thinking individuals (creators) are in large part, their ideas?" Her question piqued his interest more than most.

The essence of an authentic personal identity is that person's evolving view. Capturing it provides the best possible identity verification.? 'That is not quite it', he thought.

[WARNING]

If an identity system is doing more 'to' you rather than 'for' you, your suspicion is likely justified. The idea is to provide an entity that is almost entirely 'for, you. Meaning accountable to you in all legal respects.

To make such an arrangement economically viable ...

"Not her eyes." He made it clear with a gesture just who he meant. Another female wagged her tail.

Property Owners and Abuse

"The idea just popped into my head, intellectual property eminent domain. So I immediately googled it. To my pleasant surprise, there were a few interesting hits right at the top of the results page."

"We have talked about it in general on several occasions as the log clearly indicates. The intellectual property concept as a pilot is a bit new however."

"What comes to light when Authentic Personal Identity and Intellectual Property are considered together? Perhaps a sometimes elusive 'Tent Pole'?. Her connection had not occurred to him. Yet it sounded natural as she articulated it.

"Follow me for a moment. Characters are the idenities. Tent Poles are the abstract descriptions of meaning between them. Does it make any sense?" The puzzled look said as much as her words.

"Just taking a brief look at the Fifth Amendment brought up a particularly claifying perspective on the issue at hand. Ambiguity in the US Constitution is frequent and intentional (meant to be interpreted). This fact is especially meaningful in resolving what could be called, fair ownership. Invention is not new. Inventions, by definition are. In some measure, each of us is inventing our idenitity each moment of our life."

"… may still be relying on substantial deception, it seems. I don't agree that it is inconsequential. Let me tell you why."

At that point an urgent call from the front desk interrupted. The importance

The prepared remarks had not been distributed before they convened. The reason, to evaluate the individual members first reactions as the 'bomb was dropped' during the presentation.

If somebody had gotten wind of the deeper motive of the session, this was an ideal way to buy some time. The best at this tactic have a card file with such 'spontaneous emergencies'. Ready to go on a moments notice. This option does require some early warning and usually suggests secret sources of information.

"Hence, the unfolding story. Real people in real life manifesting the subtle patterns that have been known for millennia (and understood better at each occurrence in the intevening time)."

Apparent now to a critical mass of folks, anti-corruption is the new killer app. Early in the harvest, will be the tools to communicate effectively in the field.

A Zone Called Twilight

"No. No. You are dreaming. Wake up."

How many ways could this deja vu stuff play? "Am I running a temperature … is it a fever dream?" he ruminated.

Several days, maybe even weeks. Dreaming that that specific dream had been dreamed before and wondering how it was different this time. Further, upon waking continuing the search for the original … dream? Or was it just his imagination ...

Gaming Social Networks

Hard working. Right.
"A friend comments on a Facebook post she/he does not agree with. A post comes to my news feed showing it. My friend's comment does not. Clever. Manipulative. Something that should be stopped soon. The trick is getting Facebook's attention. They care and are working hard to make the process of catching organized vandals faster."

"Who has time for such stuff? I am doing fine pretending it is not relevant to MY family having all it wants. Selfish works."

Actually it has been that way for awhile but it is now collapsing under its own dead weight. Self delusion is a key component of the rationale. Systems that deceive themselves are difficult and expensive to sustain.

Risky Launch

"We lost contact just before the disclosure exchange was to begin. A partial confirmation that the infrastructure could support encrypted block transfers. Then nothing."

The nature of this work, where operatives were behind the line and communications latency and reliability were major factors, begged testing rigor. This mission's timing sensitivity and overall importance trumped such verification if necessary.

Her serendipitous late arrival boosted confidence just enough for them to decide to proceed though they clearly did not have the time to even calculate the higher risk it entailed.

Doing the right thing can be its own immediate reward. Intuition suggests it. Collective belief often lags though, intuition is very personal. Someone must lead. Will you be ready if it is you that must take the helm?

"Would it be fair to say that sequence mostly overrides timing?"

"Yes, that is the idea."

Most would not and, frankly, could not understand because of the groundbreaking protocol being tested.

In recent months he started to feel more comfortable about flagging the nocturnal experience for the group. Last time it came up, she suggested that something akin could be occurring in the network and they were not noticing it for lack of relatively concrete criteria.

"If you have come to this narrative without benefit of its context or history, we suggest you may want to use one or more of the several feedback mechanisms to express your reaction(s).

"The audience is still a manageable size and personal attention is a distinct possibility. Most of the value is generated in a robust dialog in and amongst those who come here at least occasionally."

The team would often would hear from those who were justifiably critical of how much support the public interface offered. Given that some large companies have become successful at making their public interface friendly, people know there is a better way. But friendly is not trivial even though the friendliest make it look that way. Perhaps interactive engagement can close the gap. We'll see. There is plenty of motivation to pursue that ideal.

Oops

Dedication to a principle that reveres the relationship between cause and effect without due consideration of a proper pairing of them is not desirable.

Self delusion or willful ignorance of this type is particularly vexing. An error can be reinforced with misplaced loyalty.

The Letter

Different (smart).
"I am thinking two basic parts:

"Private - she can choose whether and with whom to share. Public - something the author discloses to  anyone with an interest in the subject matter." As he spoke he was aware that the other gender might express things differently even if they were in general agreement. It would be welcome input, indeed."

The tone of the question matched its gravity, "Lowest common denominator - expert denial?" Persuasion, often to the exclusion of accuracy or completeness, dominated recent exchanges. Hardly a prescription for consensus building.

That is where the public part comes into play. Open invites scrutiny and can be in lieu of self deception. Higher with less chance for complication. Call it flop if you will. Funny name for a standard though.

"Codeword received. Reacting accordingly."

The updated protocol treated it as a high priority early warning. Just like 'escalation' before it, the association was strong enough that waiting for deep clarification was overridden.

Because it could be a drill, the meeting routine continued unabated. Piggybacking on their research was expected. Even this element of wronged entitlement co-mingling with a standard covert special forces tactic ('the other side does it').

She was inside and then mysteriously and meticulously planned and executed an escape plan. It was only recently discovered that some of the covert preparation extended back as much as two years. This preceded the checks and balances whose purpose was to detect suspicious internal activity.

Deep Integrity

"It  works because there is virtually no systemic formula. A grand secret is not necessary. Patterns at the highest levels are avoided as a matter of policy.

"Ideally, as much effort has to be expended to compromise a single identity as it took to assemble the population of identities plus a reasonable fraction of the time it took to do so."

Progress in this area has been dramatic in recent years. Identity authenticity has been a somewhat serendipitous result of the push to get the dramatic benefits of social interaction with our latest network and information technology.

"Voice out or text display: tell me something about yourself no one else is likely to know."

Discarded Policies

"Number 23. Slandering your enemies is overrated, sweetheart."

The exercise was to accumulate a current list of the lame formulas for life. Because of the quantity, most were abbreviated to keep the list manageable.

One argument is that until the mind discovers through a personal experience the consequences of a short-lived policy of dubious merit, a suitable pattern is not accessible for predictive recognition. Its the motivation piece, Prudence.

The fascination of a certain age group for games based on quickly encoded recognition suggests one or more that may have some very attractive qualities both to the gamer and to society. The basis is an aspiration to indirect, tangible and long-tern benefits.

Are We There Yet?

"A range from non-recognition to super recognition - How time modulates trust at the identity abstraction level?"

"That is pretty technical. What does it mean?"

Face Recognition (Music)
"I ask that way as a first attempt to try and understand how to best utilize patterns to quickly filter analytical flow. Consider an example.

"A learning behavior pattern where the student is discovering the generic value of predictive selection. A key to success is to generalize seeking truth beyond personal preference. 'I like what I am hearing so I will not look any further. On second thought, what I want to be true may not actually be so.'"

Authentic external personal identity is highly abstract and anything but static. Character is slow changing as compared to mood. Further, both impact pro-active and re-active reponses to situations. As a person individuates this function, as much as any other, is critical.

"With a little of the heat off, exploring what constitutes 'proper' in this context deserves attention."

Some of what came out in the debrief was a shock. Looking back at the film, so-to-speak, it should not have been. Mapping the patterns from then and now was all but routine. In the chaos of the moment, none of it seemed to matter.

"It would be useful to ask how we would practice for a time when those alarms go off again.", she opined. It was natural for her to feel it. Not so much to express it to her male counterparts who were in a hurry (you can't ask the dragon to wait a minute).

Aftermath

While you were watching the Olympics we got some actual work done.

"What do you want?

"Stop responding to allegations of one side for convenience. The benefits will be short-lived. The stakes are too high for the other side and they have not come even close to exhausting the resources available to assert their case.

"Complacency is the creeping enemy of the dominant. The decay of readiness becomes fertile ground to the lower forms of life. And they, in turn, can become the servants of opportunists."

A wider systems view shows the pattern to be a subset of a larger wasted energy progression.

Mindlessly pushing limits, not wise.

Loyalty

"Is it possible they don't think it is corruption because they have been told it serves a higher purpose - one they should not question?"

"Makes some sense. Remember, the source of these folks is from an environment where loyalty to a superior officer was virtually mandatory. Those least troubled by this arrangement were rewarded with a measure of security for which they became accustomed. Then onto a familiar environment in a government job in domestic law-enforcement."

Countdown

"In a little over four weeks, we will know much more than we do now.

"The corrupting influence of unearned income may have finally peaked. By extension, challenged, humans become something less? Without competition the immune system tends to attack itself."

Many troubling thoughts cascaded through his mind, all with a common theme: A mission oblivious to context and the passage of time.

"Mission is to escape ('we all need to get away, sometimes'). Then another ('run of bad luck'). Isolation is misery but it seems safe ('denial is better than the alternative'). Others are afraid too. Recruit them. Acting as a unit and unencumbered with a sense of social responsibility - 'greed breeds'."

With the first test such a short time away, the tension palpable. If one has to ask "Am I ready?", the answer is very likely no. Conscious awareness alone simply does not have the capacity. Mind globally engaged, a different story.
