One person, in particular, provided the enabling clue. Protecting her for her courage made sense not just because of her bravery. An image of an ethical underground (for lack of a better term), has appeared.

Often referenced as having a morale compass, certain individuals show an extraordinary capacity to do the right thing even though risky in some sense to them personally.
