Motive

"She may well be smarter but she is constrained by lack of experience and a heavy reliance on deception."

Understanding possible rationales for the observed behavior provides a more flexible and therefore adaptable framework on which to investigate suspicious activity. Somewhere between 'that is what people that age do' and 'they are stealing hubcaps' is the sweet spot.

Open to less-than-intuitive clues can spell the difference between success and failure. Especially true if those opposed to exposure are relatively sophisticated.

In the case under consideration, a drive to offset controlling behavior may have led her to taking otherwise unnecessary risks.

"Our patiently implementing a plan to hold various parties to account is gaining momentum."

"Is that what Liar's Poker is about?"

"The book or the game?"
